5/11/25

"Green Hydrogen in Magallanes: Opportunities, Impacts and Challenges" was the name of the meeting organized by the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Magallanes, which brought together representatives from the public, academic, business and social sectors to discuss the challenges and projections of the emerging hydrogen and green ammonia industry in the region.

The activity was attended by Salvador Harambour, Executive Director of Asociación Gremial H2V Magallanes; Elisa Giustinianovich, ecofeminist activist; Humberto Gómez, from Agrupación Ecológica Patagónica; and María José Navajas, Regional Director of CORFO Magallanes.

The attendees highlighted this conversation as an opportunity to promote the exchange of diverse views that contribute to the sustainable development of Magallanes, integrating environmental protection with the promotion of clean energies.

During his speech, Salvador Harambour emphasized that the quality of the Magellanic winds alone is not enough to consolidate the new energy industry. He stressed the need to advance in competitiveness, financial viability, regulatory stability, enabling infrastructure and greater state support, in order to project a productive pole with a territorial and long-term sense.

The meeting concluded by highlighting that Magallanes faces the historic challenge of being the protagonist of a new energy era, safeguarding the unique nature that distinguishes it and promoting development that benefits the entire community.
